1.) Let your Representatives in Washington know that you support giving the FDA the resources it needs to ensure the safety of the food supply.

Congress is considering whether to provide the FDA with the resources it needs to ensure the safety of our food supply. After years of chronic underfunding, the FDA is struggling to keep pace with emerging new challenges and the cutting edge science needed to address them.

2.) Encourage your Representatives to support the Costa-Putnam Safe FEAST Act of 2008.

Increasing the strength of the public-private food safety partnership is the best way to improve our nation’s food safety net and bolster consumer confidence in the safety and security of the food supply.

Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA) and Congressman Adam H. Putnam’s (R-FL) recently introduced the bipartisan Safe FEAST Act of 2008 proposal to improve, modernize and strengthen our nation’s food safety system. The bill will place significant new mandates on the food industry, including new produce safety standards.

3.) Tell your Representative to oppose the overly burdensome, unworkable, and costly Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act Discussion Draft.

The broad new food taxes, import restrictions, unworkable new regulatory and labeling requirements, and overly broad new enforcement powers contained in the Dingell bill will not improve food safety and imperil the passage of food safety legislation in 2008.
